Recreational Marijuana Legalized in Ohio with New Regulations Ahead


Ohio has become the 24th state to legalize recreational marijuana, following voter approval of Issue 2 in the November election. While the law allows possession of cannabis for adults over 21, authorized sellers are not yet in place, and licenses for retailers are expected to be processed starting in June, making legal purchases likely in late summer or early fall. Some legislative changes are also being proposed, including increasing the sales tax, regulating advertising, and advancing the start of dispensary sales to 90 days after the governor signs the bill into law. Public use rules are expected to be similar to cigarette regulations, with no indoor use in public places.
