Age and Experience Levels May Contribute to Workplace Injuries

Physical decline associated with aging can increase the likelihood of workplace injuries. For instance, older workers may experience reduced vision, hearing, or mobility which could lead to accidents. Physically demanding tasks such as heavy lifting, repetitive motions, or standing for extended periods may pose greater challenges for older or inexperienced workers, potentially resulting in injuries such as back strain, carpal tunnel syndrome, or slips and falls. A study found that workers over 60 had a 15% higher average cost per claim, even though they were injured less frequently than other age groups.

It's essential to note, however, that assumptions based on stereotypes or generalizations should be approached with caution. Workplace injuries can occur to workers of any age or experience level, and other factors such as inadequate training, poor working conditions, or employer negligence can also contribute to injuries.
