Good morning, it’s Monday morning and the birds are singing!

The FDA recently announced that it has extended the Covid-19 vaccine’s emergency use authorization to children ages 5-to-11, and UPS is determined to meet the demand. The Atlanta-based international freight transportation provider is focused on distribution efforts of the vaccine and has created a “UPS Healthcare Vaccine Experience” to showcase to its clients.

👨‍💼 An ex-Amazon executive is stepping into a new role: CEO of the transportation logistics startup Flexport. Dave Clark will begin his duties as CEO of the San Fransisco-based logistics company on September 1st. He had been an employee of Amazon for 23 years, surprising many when he resigned earlier this month. A replacement has not been named by Amazon quite yet.

♻️ The Hyzon's Class 8 fuel cell has impressed attendees of the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Long Beach, California. This is a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) that operates up to a 400-mile range and the process of fueling up the truck at a hydrogen pump at the port can be done in 10-15 minutes. This greatly contrasts with the ell-electric operated trucks which could take hours to charge.

🚛 Keep talking to your drivers: they won’t be impressed with unannounced technology in their trucks. Keeping the communication lines open and honest with drivers not only builds trust but also a better understanding of why the new technology is implemented into their work. Any skepticism about tech should be allowed for discussion, and driver cooperation is essential for new tech to be successfully implemented.


FMSCA’s IT system is getting a face-lift

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has had what’s been dubbed a “decades-old technology system” in its midst, and the chief technology officer, Pavan Pidugu, has worked hard to change that.

After two years of grueling work, the FMCSA has unveiled its new IT system, crafted by the same person who worked on Walmart and Target’s before joining the FMSCA in the summer of 2020.

Truck parking in the US is a huge driver issues; members of Congress call for action

Representatives Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) and Sam Graves (R-Mo.) are arguing that financing parking availability for commercial drivers across the nation would increase roadway safety and better facilitate the supply chain.

Adequate parking availability has been an issue for drivers for years. The U.S. Department of Transportation and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg are also addressing parking concerns.
