E-commerce customers want sustainable shipping options
Good morning! Monday mornings call for a large cup of coffee and a great way to kick off your week… ☕️
Let’s talk about sustainable shipping. There has been a notable shift in customer attitude toward shipping over the past few years: they want more of it, but also… a more sustainable version. Companies such as Amazon have demonstrated that customers are willing to wait longer for items they order by allowing them to decide how many packages and/or stops to their location their order will be delivered.
Check out today’s featured article from Supply Chain Brain to read about the growing pressure from consumers for the retail and wholesale companies they shop from to demonstrate a commitment to more sustainable shipping practices.

Union Teamsters and Universal Logistics settle 2021 classification dispute
In April of 2021, a group of drivers went on strike against Universal Intermodal Services, claiming that the Michigan-based company was misclassifying its employees behind the wheel. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the drayage company have now come to a settlement agreement before taking the allegations to trial. All independent contractors working drayage loads for Universal Intermodal Services will now become union employees under the agreement.
This agreement between the two parties will also bring the company into compliance with California’s AB5 law, which makes it very difficult for companies in the state to hire independent contractor drivers.

Washington and Massachusetts join California in banning sales of gas-powered vehicles by 2035
California tends to set the standard for the regulations moving forward for motor vehicle emissions - so it’s no surprise that two more states will follow suit with the 2035 ban on gas-powered vehicles. Washington and Massachusetts both have laws meant to trigger the ban once The California Air Resources Board (CARB) made a decision.
Other states that similarly follow CARB’s lead on emission standards are the following: Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, and Washington D.C.
