BANNED: gas-powered vehicles will no longer be sold in CA by 2035
Good morning! Happy Saturday to the readers. We’re happy you’re here. 🏆
Let’s get you briefly filled in before you head off and enjoy your day.
We knew it was coming… but it’s now official. The California Air Resources Board unanimously voted in approval of a proposal that will require 100% of vehicles sold in the state to be all-electric by 2035. Auto manufacturers aren’t usually too fond of making different cars for different states, and with California absorbing most of the auto market with its exorbitant size, this will likely mean similar initiatives for zero emissions will be adopted in other regions of the country.
Check out today’s featured article from Vox to read about California’s effective ban on gasoline-powered vehicles by the year 2035 and what this could mean for other states in the union that may follow suit. ☕️

Trade & Border Issues 🗺
China’s economy is on the decline, but why?
Xi Jinping, the leader of the People’s Republic of China, is heading toward his third term this year. And his term will likely begin with further economic issues that have already been plaguing the country due to its strict Covid-19 lockdown policies. Approximately 247 million people in China have been negatively affected by these lockdowns. And in a staggering statistic, Shanghai (a city with a population of 25 million) sold zero automobiles during the month of April 2022 during one of these widespread lockdowns.
With an unemployment rate of almost 20% among adults ages 16 through 24, the economic situation is growing worse by the month.
Inflation 💸
The Fed promises more rate hikes despite easing inflationary woes
Cozied up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming this week, Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell shared a message with others at its Annual Economic Symposium: interest rates will continue to rise. This plan hasn’t changed as a summer of sky-high inflation has tortured Americans with prices of gasoline and food costing them more than ever. However, it seems that the rising inflation may have tapered off.
The suggestion that inflation may be easing comes from the reduction in the Labor Department’s consumer price index from last month. The prices of food and gasoline rose 4.6% in July from the previous year as opposed to the 4.8% growth in June.

🗣 How did it get this volatile? Well, depends on who you ask. FedEx Ground’s contractors are pulling every string they can find to amend the current business model between the company and its independent delivery providers. (Supply Chain Dive)
🔋 But, is it even possible? Those new California-backed EV requirements may be harder to meet than what meets the eyes. Regulations set to be rolled out in “phases” will begin in 2026 - leaving the state with almost four years to prepare. But many are significantly concerned with the state’s electric grid. (AP News)
