Gen Z’s Perspective: August 11th, 2022
Hello, my name is Christina. I am new in the Transportation Industry. I am 19 years old and want to give you a teenager’s view on some trending Logistics topics. You can find this topic on www.ilevellogistics.com in “The Daily” for August 11th, 2022.
The first topic I wanted to dive a little deeper into is how Arizona is growing into one of the biggest Logistics hubs for warehouses. I live in Arizona, and I can tell it is growing day by day toward a Logistics business paradise. The article from the Wall Street Journal on iLevel’s daily news reports that over 19.8 million square feet (about twice the total floor space of the Pentagon) are being developed for more warehouse space. I understand why people are moving their businesses out of California, as well as other states with outrageous business taxes and regulations.
Arizona is one of the better places to have warehouses and businesses, in relation to its taxes and regulations. However, the downside is that it is landlocked. Not having a reachable ocean means no ports. Because of this, you must consider the land transport distance to and from the ports of entry to the larger shipping world. Companies are weighing the burdensome California business costs against the costs associated with the greater distance from these ports. High fuel is just one of the considerations. The real question being asked is, “Would having cheaper taxes in Arizona make up for having to drive over 6 hours to a port”?
That question is being debated in a whole lot of Board Rooms as we speak. Builders in Arizona are betting that the answer will drive more business their way.
