U.S. DOT Launches Task Force to Address Predatory Truck Lease-Purchase Agreements


The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has formed a Truck Leasing Task Force to address predatory lease-purchase agreements that exploit truck drivers. These agreements often leave drivers in a worse financial position and fail to provide ownership of the truck despite ongoing payments. The task force will assess the impact of commercial motor vehicle lease agreements and develop best practices to protect drivers from exploitative practices. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the need for transparency and regulations to prevent misleading terms and ensure fair treatment for drivers.
