Photographer's Climate Awakening Spurn From Witnessing Massive Glacier Calving in Greenland


Photographer James Balog and his team, originally skeptical about climate change, witnessed an extraordinary event while filming in Greenland. They captured the largest glacier calving ever filmed, where a massive chunk of ice, equivalent in size to Lower Manhattan and several times taller than buildings, melted and collapsed into the ocean. This experience transformed Balog into a climate change believer, as he saw tangible evidence of the planet's rapid warming, including the melting of Arctic landmasses at an unprecedented rate over the last two decades.
