The occurrence of El Niño, in combination with a reduction in aerosols, has intensified the warming trend caused by human-induced greenhouse gas emissions. Although we have not reached the point of no return, urgent action is needed to mitigate the impacts of climate change by transitioning away from fossil fuels.
