Climate Records Shattered Globally as El Niño and Reduction in Aerosols Contribute to Extreme Heat


Recent climate records have been broken worldwide, with July 4 becoming the hottest global average day on record. The occurrence of El Niño, in combination with a reduction in aerosols, has intensified the warming trend caused by human-induced greenhouse gas emissions. Although we have not reached the point of no return, urgent action is needed to mitigate the impacts of climate change by transitioning away from fossil fuels.
