Container Dwell Fee postponed to July 15th by POLA & POLB
Good morning! Happy Taco Tuesday. You know what to do. 🌮
The Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles account for approximately 40% of all U.S. import shipments. Since November 22, 2021, the ports have been pushing back consideration of their ocean carrier Container Dwell fee - and have now delayed again, to July 15th.

😵💫 Amazon admits that it may have gone too far. The expanding network may be stretched its limits a little too thin after several years of focusing on getting same-day delivery available to now more than 17 countries. The company’s press release last week expounded upon its Q1 profit failure and the resulting incremental costs due to excess fulfillment and transportation capacity in its network. Amazon’s demand forecast was far off-base, and they are intent on not making the same mistake twice.
🛍 Retailers are struggling with excess inventory and rushing to get it off the shelves before the holiday season. Historical inflation jumps, panic-buying during a pandemic, swift changes in supply and demand… retailers have had it rough. Target has been the loudest voice in retail, cutting profit expectations in Q2 and canceling orders from suppliers. If one thing is for sure… it’s that these retailers can do nothing but give a really good guess as to what is going to happen next.
🍇 A global supply chain crisis is shaking an industry none of us can survive without: food. The problem seems to keep escalating and the worrying topic has supply chain experts sounding the alarm. From invasion in Eastern Europe to extreme weather conditions to worker shortages, the results are rising food prices and less-safe consumable products.
FDA accepts responsibility for the baby formula shortage
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted responsibility for the recent baby formula shortage that had parents across the U.S. entering desperation mode. The FDA’s rules had effectively banned foreign-manufactured formula from American shelves, leaving the public in a tight situation when it came to feeding the most vulnerable after an FDA shut-down of the country’s largest manufacturing plant.
FDA Commissioner Robert Califf stated, "The need to diversify and strengthen the U.S. infant formula supply is more important than ever." Unfortunately, it took a crisis to recognize that reality.
Rest easy: the famous Costco hot dogs will not face a price hike
According to Costco club’s CEO, Craig Jelinek, the chain’s famous hot dogs will not receive a price hike. Several of the other food court item staples however DO have growing price tags amid decade-high inflation, such as the chicken bake and the 20-ounce soda.
Members of the club can also sigh with relief while their membership fees remain the same… for now. The vast majority of Costco’s profits come from membership fees rather than the actual selling of products. While other retailers have spoken about weakening consumers and excess inventory, Costco has boasted huge sales numbers this year.
