Ryder System, a leading logistics and transportation giant based in Miami, has established an innovation laboratory in Silicon Valley with a focus on transforming transportation and supply chain networks and preparing for the upcoming wave of AI technologies. The lab, led by the founders of startup Baton, which Ryder invested in and acquired last year, aims to develop and invest in innovative technologies, products, and services. The team, which currently consists of about 30 members, includes experts from prestigious companies such as Apple, Google, Tesla, and OpenAI, with plans to expand to around 50 members within the first year. The lab's first project, called Baton, involves creating an AI-powered digital platform and optimization engine to manage transportation networks for customers facing seasonality and fluctuating demand challenges. The team's ultimate goal is to build digital products within Ryder and explore further opportunities, including harnessing the potential of generative AI for the logistics industry.
