🪦 NHTSA Reports Decrease in Traffic Fatalities during the First Quarter of 2023.

According to projections released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), traffic fatalities in the first three months of 2023 decreased by approximately 3.3% compared to the same period in 2022. This marks the fourth consecutive quarterly decline in fatalities after seven straight quarters of year-to-year increases. Despite a 2.6% increase in vehicle miles traveled, the fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled has decreased from the previous year. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg highlighted the progress but emphasized the need for continued efforts to make this downward trend permanent and reduce preventable crashes. NHTSA is actively working on new vehicle standards, infrastructure improvements, and promoting safe driving practices to enhance roadway safety.
