Sinopec Breaks Record with Deepest Onshore Well in Asia, Boosting China's Energy Exploration


China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has achieved the first oil and gas flows from Asia's deepest onshore well, the Yuejin 3-3XC well in the Tarim Basin, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. The well reached a depth of 9,432 meters (30,945 ft), setting a new record for the deepest onshore well in Asia. Sinopec's success reflects China's advancements in deep earth technologies and exploration, and other state-held energy giants like China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) are also drilling ultra-deep wells in an effort to boost domestic oil and natural gas production.
