GM Matches Ford's 23% Wage Hike Offer Amid Ongoing Auto Workers Strike


General Motors (GM) has increased its offer to striking auto workers, matching Ford's proposed 23% wage hike and benefit improvements. This move comes as the strike enters its fifth week, affecting more than 34,000 union members at three automakers. The offers from GM and Ford converge on similar wage increases, and this development suggests progress in negotiations, though challenges remain as the union initially demanded a 40% wage hike. The strike has resulted in significant economic losses for both the automakers and the U.S. economy, estimated at $7.7 billion, with $3.45 billion of losses for the Detroit Three.
