Germany Boosts Border Patrols to Curb Smuggling and Illegal Migration

Germany has announced plans to increase police patrols along smuggling routes on its borders with Poland and the Czech Republic to prevent more migrants from entering the country. The move follows police raids that uncovered over 100 Syrian citizens in apartments linked to a smuggling ring. Germany will deploy additional customs officers to support the intensified border controls, aimed at curbing smuggling and illegal migration. The country has seen a rise in asylum applications, with more than 220,000 people applying in the first eight months of this year, but the numbers are still lower than the peak in 2015-2016.
