European Electric Vehicle Battery Supply Chain Faces Delays as Companies Prioritize US Market


The development of a European battery supply chain for electric vehicles independent of China is facing significant delays as companies shift their focus to the US market due to clean energy subsidies offered by the US Inflation Reduction Act. Chris Burns, head of Australian battery materials producer Novonix, highlighted the challenges Europe faces in building an independent supply chain for critical materials like graphite, a key component in batteries. China currently controls 75% of the anode supply chain, which poses a hurdle for Europe's ambitions, especially as Chinese manufacturers target expansion in the European market.
