Eliminating Ineffective Safety Regulations: OOIDA's Spencer Calls for Reform


During a meeting of the Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee, Todd Spencer, President of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), urged the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to assess the effectiveness of existing safety regulations. Spencer highlighted that despite numerous regulations aimed at improving safety in the trucking industry, there has been little evidence of significant improvements in reducing fatalities and crashes. Other committee members also emphasized the need to examine driver compensation models and their potential impact on safety.
