Alibaba's logistics arm, Cainiao Network, has introduced its half-day express delivery service in eight major Chinese cities, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen. The service, launched in collaboration with Tmall Supermarket, promises to deliver orders placed before noon before 9 pm the same day, and orders placed before midnight before noon of the next day. Cainiao aims to stimulate domestic consumption and plans to expand the service to seven more cities soon. The move comes as China's package delivery market experiences significant growth, with over 60 billion packages delivered in the first half of this year, a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. revealed a deeper involvement of Chinese government entities in its various business arms following an inquiry from the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
