Good morning. Happy Monday. How was your weekend?
If you’re a trucker and had to work a little late in traffic this past weekend, you may be in for some big news here shortly. The Guaranteeing Overtime for Truckers Act, or HR7517, is gaining traction in Congress, with now eight co-sponsors. The bill amends the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act, which had an overtime exemption for motor carriers. Originally it was implemented to make sure truckers weren’t “overworked” for safety reasons… but advocates for the new bill are saying the exemption is far-outdated.
Check out today’s featured article from Landline Media to get the updates on the bill and where it may lead if passed, and check out all our other articles below for the latest logistics, supply chain, and truck driving news. ☕️

🌏 Southeast Asian countries are hinting at their disappointment in the Biden Administration. The region is specifically looking for free-trade deals with the White House, but so far there has been little of substance brought to the table. With American focus seemingly on strengthening coordinated defense relationships with other nations rather than trade deals, Southeast Asia is getting frustrated.
🛢 The European Union sanctioning Russian oil opens the door to West Africa. While some may expect the Middle East to fill the gaping hole left by Russian oil, instead countries like Nigeria and Angola are struggling to fill it. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have plenty of petroleum to spare but have refrained from sending any additional shipments to Europe.
🇨🇳 Chinese tariffs levied by former President Trump have been largely ignored by the current administration: until now. President Biden made some comments regarding inflation and how the White House is weighing the pros and cons of lifting Trump-era tariffs on the Asian country. His comments were vague, not noting if the White House is discussing lowering or erasing the tariffs completely.
Q1 Results for Amazon revealed surprising data
Photo by Daniel Eledut on Unsplash
For Q1, Amazon has reported a loss of $3.8 billion. With a net income of $8.1 billion in Q1 2021, this was a shocking report.
This may be reasonably explained through the company’s investment purchase of the electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian - meant to compete with the likes of Tesla. Additionally, online sales dropped 3% in Q1, after dropping 1% in the previous Q4. Are you still using your Amazon Prime account or not?
Alaskan & Gulf Coast offshore oil lease sales canceled by Biden Administration
Photo by Joshua Sukoff on Unsplash
Despite fuel prices reaching all-time highs, the Biden Administration has canceled three previously scheduled sales on the Gulf Coast and in Alaska. The White House cites a “lack of interest” in the Alaska coastline by the oil drilling industry and challenging court rulings in the Gulf.
The action has removed millions of acres from possible drilling. And the gas prices continue to skyrocket.
